Make sure to practice with the software before going to your first live game. There is a small learning curve necessary before you want to attempt to be the official statistics for a live game. Make sure to read the manual so you will be aware of all of the software features and abilities. Refer to the user’s manual Sections 1.7 and 1.8 for more information on this subject.

I think I have a demo version of the software because it says I only have 28 days remaining in trial period. Can I still use the program to enter games?
Daktronics allows potential users to demo the software before having to purchase it. When the 28 days remaining text on startup of the program is visible, the software has not been registered and will not run after the trial period expires. Other than the trial period, there is no difference between the demo (unregistered) software and the registered software. The demo software can do everything that the registered software can do. Game entry, adding teams, and reports can all be done by either version of the software. Only the amount of time available for you to use the software is limited if it is not registered. If, after trying out the software, you want to purchase it simply contact your Daktronics sales representative for pricing and information. Upon proof of purchase you will receive the unlock code that will allow you unlimited use of the software. Refer to user’s manual Section 1.5 for further information on this subject.

Why will the program not allow the deletion of certain players or teams?
Before a team can be deleted, you must delete all of the players from that team and delete all of the teams scheduled games in every season. Before a player can be deleted, you must delete all of his statistics from all of the games in every season. This includes games played and games started. In order to accomplish this for games entered in play-by-play mode you may have to choose the Rebuild Stats option under the Edit menu after deleting or editing the plays that the player was involved in. You may find this to be too involved but it simplifies the editing and updating of game statistics. A team’s statistics is merely the sum of the statistics for the players on that team. In most cases, this is desirable because you only have to edit a players stats and the teams stats for that game and the season are automatically updated. There are a few team stats that are not calculated by summing the players’ stats. This only occurs for the shooting percentage statistics when entering a game in Box Totals mode. When entering a game in any other mode the team’s shooting percentage by period is the sum of the player’s shooting percentages by period. For more information on this subject refer to the following sections in the manual: Team Configuration, Player Configuration and Box Entry Mode.

Other teams that I play this year also use the DakStats Statistical software. Can we exchange information electronically?
Yes, that is one of the key time saving features for our users. Double work by entering rosters or statistics that someone else has already entered into the DakStats Statistical software, even if they entered the information on another computer at a different school is not necessary. This is also a key feature when a conference of schools wants to keep conference statistics. A team and its players can be imported and exported by using the options available in Team Configuration. Games can be imported and exported using the Import Game and Export Game options found under the File menu. You can then take these files and exchange them with other DakStats Statistical users. You can send the files via email, ftp or floppy disk. This is one of the key features of the DakStats Statistical software that we want all users to take full advantage of. Refer to the user’s manual Section 1.9 for further information.

How can I share the information collected with DakStats Statistical with others?
You can use the Print Favorites or Print In-Game to generate HTML ready report files. These reports are saved as files with an .HTM extension on the filename. After generating the reports you wish to share, simply print, fax, attach to emails, or place the reports on your schools home page.

Can I enter multiple players with the same name or jersey?
The software can handle multiple players with the same names and/or jersey numbers. The software saves each player with a master identification number that the user will never have to see or use. When entering a play which has a player from a team which has identical jersey numbers the program will ask the user one additional question when necessary to resolve which of the players will get credit for that play.

Can I change a player’s jersey number during the game? OR Can I change a player’s name during the game?
Yes, this may happen due to blood on the jersey or a typing error. It doesn’t matter if a game is open or not. Simply use the Roster Configuration to edit the player’s jersey or any of the player’s information. When exiting the roster configuration, if a game is currently open, then the program will automatically update the players information wherever necessary. The next time you create a report, it will have the newly edited information.

The program will not allow me to edit any stats. It says the “Competition has been finished.”
This will occur if you entered the game in Box Mode. The Game Finished is a flag which the user can set and unset. Use this flag so you will know which games have been completely entered and which games still need to be entered. If after setting a Box Mode game as Finished and you want to change or edit a statistics in that game, you will first need to go to the Game Control menu and uncheck the Game Finished menu option. As long as the Game Finished flag is not set, it will allow you to make any changes. After making your changes check the Game Finished menu option as a note to yourself that the game has been completely entered.

Why does my computer try to connect to the Internet when I print my reports?
DakStats uses your Internet browser to display the reports prior to printing them. As a result, if your computer is set up to dial the Internet when you open an Internet browser, it will attempt to connect. To prevent this from happening we will need to tell your DakStats computer not to dial every time you open your browser. Follow these steps:
Click Start, click Settings and then click Control Panel. In the control panel, double click on Internet Options. Click the Connections tab. On this tab, select the option that is similar to ''Never dial a connection''.
You computer will no longer automatically try to dial a connection with your browser is opened. You can repeat the steps and select the appropriate connection option to re-enable the auto-dial feature.

Why is my computer running slow or locking up?
Computer lockups are a common computer problem. As you add programs and files to your computer, it will slow down. If there are too many programs running at one time, your computer will lock up. DakStats alone will not cause your computer to run slow or lock up. However, most computers load extraneous programs when your computer starts. These programs take up memory and slow down the computer. Your computer is a machine, and, like all machines, it needs to be maintained.
Because there are so may things that can cause a computer to lock up, fixing this issue may take multiple steps.
Begin with shutting down all extra programs in your system tray. Most programs in the system tray can be shut down by right clicking on them and clicking the close or exit option. When you are running DakStats, it is not necessary to have these other programs running. Your programs will return to your system tray when you restart you computer.
If you computer is still running slow. It will be necessary to remove the items from your startup group.
In Windows 98:
Use Msconfig to disable all terminate-and-stay-resident programs (TSRs).
OL.withalpha { list-style-type: lower-alpha }

In Windows 95:
Remove everything from the Startup Group.
- On your screen, locate and click the Start button. From the Start menu, point to Settings, then click Taskbar.
- In the Taskbar Properties dialog box, click the Start Menu Programs tab. On the Start Menu Programs tab, click Advanced.
- On the left side of the Exploring window, locate and double-click the Programs folder.
- On the left side of the Exploring window, locate and click the Startup folder.
- Drag the icons from the right side of the window to any folder, except the StartUp folder, in the left side of the window. Note which icons you moved and where they are, so that you can restore them later.
If you are still having lock up problems, consult you computer documentation for further steps in reducing or eliminating lockups.

I am using the play-by-play mode of DakStats and I keep forgetting to start and stop the DakStats game clock. Is there something I can do to make keeping track of the time easier?
Keeping track of the time can be one of the hardest things to do when keeping statistics. DakStats has two interface options that can simplify this process.
Option 1: The DakStats scoreboard controller interface
DakStats can interface to Daktronics All Sport 5000 series controllers and ProSport controllers to pull the game time and clock directly from the scoreboard controller. For assistance in setting up this option, email: dakstats@daktronics.com.
Option 2: DakStats Start/Stop Switch interface.
You can add an external start/stop switch to your DakStats computer that will allow your spotter or another individual start and stop the DakStats game clock. If your scorekeeper is already using a Daktronics start/stop switch, you can connect your DakStats computer to the same start/stop switch so that it that controls the time for the game and DakStats. For assistance in setting up this option, email: dakstats@daktronics.com.
